From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The third episode ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of characters who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, separate from the additional parties.
This warrior group consists of Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be impossible.
Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a intense opening clash with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his own means, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
Casimir then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:
- The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could help the team enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Finally, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
- The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.
This leaves them few options but to journey toward the remote area in search of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to assemble the Questers and Schemers parties.
Fans can look forward to learning which characters will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
